About Liberal Education Magazine
Liberal Education, the award-winning flagship quarterly of the American Association of Colleges and Universities, offers compelling content and high-quality writing and analysis on a mix of topics integral to AAC&U’s work. Magazine articles highlight the voices of educators, faculty, administrators, and students from universities and colleges of all types and sizes, as well as policymakers and others involved in liberal learning and higher education. Stories provide thought leadership and hands-on advice on subjects related to teaching and learning, leadership, faculty innovation, diversity and inclusion, social justice, educating for democracy, and institutional change.
Liberal Education has been recognized for its writing, editing, and design work to cover the world of higher education. The summer 2025 special package “The New Policy Playbook” won a second-place National Headliner Award for magazine in-depth story or series on a major news event. The cover of the summer 2024 special issue on campus mental health was a finalist in the American Society of Magazine Editors’ Best Cover contest. The winter 2024 issue, featuring stories on antisemitism on campus and the student housing crisis, was an APEX Grand Award Winner. The magazine has also won multiple awards from the Society of Publication Designers, the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals, the Trendy Association, and the Association Media & Publishing Network.
