AAC&U Remembers Nancy Schrom Dye

Monday, November 2, 2015

AAC&U expresses sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Nancy Schrom Dye, who passed away on October 28, 2015, after a long illness. While president of Oberlin College (1994–2007), Nancy served on the AAC&U Board of Directors, joining the board in 1996 and serving as the chair of the board in 2001. Nancy was an ardent supporter of liberal education and firmly believed in AAC&U’s efforts to increase societal demand for liberal learning by calling attention to its value for graduates as citizens, as workers, and as participants in our democracy.

Nancy Dye’s distinguished career as an international leader in higher education is detailed in a statement on the Oberlin College website.  AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider noted that “as the first and only female president of Oberlin College, as an advocate for educational excellence, and as a leader in global education, particularly for women, Nancy Schrom Dye was a remarkable pioneer, feminist, and educator.  She will be missed.”
