As part of AAC&U’s Office of Global Citizenship for Campus, Community, and Careers, Veronica’s work focuses on advancing practices and strategies that support equitable participation in global learning, digital innovation, and collaborative partnerships. The initiatives prepare students for life, work, and citizenship in an interconnected world by fostering international collaborations and integrating transformative educational practices like virtual exchange and collaborative online international learning (VE/COIL).

A recognized leader in international partnership development, Veronica founded the VE/COIL Transformation Lab at the American Council on Education (ACE), piloting grant programs to expand VE/COIL initiatives between US institutions and partners in Ecuador, Japan, Norway, the UK, and Venezuela. As part of her commitment to research and data-driven insights, she also co-led the US-Japan Higher Education Engagement Study at ACE, a bilateral effort to analyze and enhance US-Japan institutional collaborations.

Veronica’s earlier roles include managing the Fulbright US Scholar Program for the East Asia Pacific region at the Institute of International Education, where she collaborated with the US Embassy in Rangoon to resume scholar exchanges in Burma for the first time since 1987. She also developed the Fulbright ASEAN Research and US-Taiwan International Education Administrators programs, fostering academic engagement in these regions.

Her experience includes positions as educational programs manager at the American Society of International Law, where she launched the donor-funded Arthur C. Helton Fellowship Program in international humanitarian law, and as a political affairs researcher at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, DC. Veronica has lived and worked in Japan, participating in the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program and completing academic studies at Temple University Japan. Recognized as a Japan specialist, she holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and Japanese language studies from Rutgers University and a Master of Arts in international affairs, specializing in comparative and regional studies of the East Asia Pacific region, from American University.
