Bret Eynon

Bret retired in 2019 from LaGuardia Community College (CUNY), where he taught history and served as Associate Provost. The founding director of LaGuardia’s Center for Teaching and Learning, Dr. Eynon designed broad programs that supported LaGuardia faculty in implementing high-impact practices at scale. Leading college-wide change initiatives related to technology, transfer, career development, advisement, assessment and strategic planning, Eynon contributed to LaGuardia’s progress in doubling LaGuardia’s graduation rate and being identified as one of the nation’s top colleges in advancing students’ economic mobility.

Eynon’s many publications include Freedom’s Unfinished Revolution: An Inquiry into the Civil War and Reconstruction (with Ronald Jackson, et. al. 1996); Open and Integrative: Designing Liberal Education for the New Digital Ecosystem (with Randy Bass, 2016); and High Impact ePortfolio Practice: A Catalyst for Student, Faculty and Institutional Learning (with Laura M. Gambino, 2017). His most recent publication (with Jon Iuzzini, et. al.) is Teaching, Learning, Equity and Change: Realizing the Promise of Professional Learning, a research report on professional development as a tool for equity-focused institutional change at MSIs and community colleges.

Eynon has been honored by the American Association for Higher Education, the Community College Futures Association, and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The national Community College Humanities Association recognized him as a Distinguished Humanities Educator. He now serves as a Senior Fellow in the Designing the Future(s) of the University initiative at Georgetown University and as the Strategic Teaching and Learning Coach at Achieving the Dream, where he supports campus teams as they advance college-wide change initiatives.
