Keystroke Writing Residency

We're Counting Down To Keystroke
Program Overview
The AAC&U Keystroke Writing Residency is a year-long, virtual professional development experience designed for STEM faculty, campus administrators, program directors, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars who are committed to advancing their scholarship – but crave a more stress-free way to do it.
The residency offers protected time to think, create, read, imagine, and write – all paired with the intentionality of a morning mindfulness practice that reduces stress, heightens self-awareness, sparks creativity, and prepares the mind for focused intellectual work. Through its weekly 90-minute sessions, with all cameras on, Keystroke also creates a visible community of colleagues reading, thinking, and writing alongside one another. This shared presence generates a quiet energy – a sense that you are not in this work alone.
And, when academic scientists like you have the space to think, write, and share what they know, the value of higher education becomes harder to overlook. Their experiences become evidence. Effective teaching and research practices become knowledge that can travel. And institutional outcomes become part of a larger story about what colleges and universities contribute to students, their surrounding communities, the scientific enterprise, and society as a whole.

Residency Features
Keystroke is grounded in a larger premise: important work cannot contribute to the reform of undergraduate STEM education if it remains unfinished, undocumented, or unseen. Thus, Keystroke Residency features include:
- Dedicated, uninterrupted time each week (Tuesdays, 8:00 - 9:30 AM ET), to make meaningful progress on the work that matters to you the most.
- Guided mindfulness practice led by Stephanie Briggs, Contemplative Practice Facilitator of Be.Still.Move.
- A supportive community of like-minded colleagues who provide systems of accountability and encouragement.
- Opportunity to qualify for expedited proposal review and discounted rates for the AAC&U Transforming STEM Higher Education Conference.
Participant Outcomes

Between 2022 and 2026,
We estimate, over 125 Keystroke Writing Residency participants generated grant funding and published manuscripts and book chapters.

"[Keystroke] has given me the chance to take the deep breath I needed, realize how much I love the work that I've been doing, and get back to it."
