VE/COIL Clinics

Practical, Flexible Training for Global Learning

What Are VE/COIL Clinics?

VE/COIL Clinics are focused, theme-based professional development sessions online designed to advance both course-level innovation and institutional strategies for global engagement.

Each clinic spans three weeks, combining asynchronous learning activities with one or two live synchronous sessions. Participants should plan for approximately 8–10 total hours of engagement over the three-week period (about three hours per week), including live sessions and applied activities. This flexible structure allows participants to engage with content and peers while balancing professional commitments.

Clinics feature narrated overviews, real-world examples, and guided activities that participants can apply directly within their own teaching or institutional contexts.

In AAC&U’s professional development model, a clinic is a short, hands-on learning experience focused on applied skill building. Each VE/COIL Clinic combines guided instruction, peer exchange, and practical exercises to help participants translate global learning concepts into action—whether at the course, program, or institutional level.

Why Participate

AAC&U’s VE/COIL Clinics go beyond online workshops, drawing on AAC&U’s longstanding leadership in global learning, curriculum internationalization, and pedagogical innovation. Developed by the Office of Global Citizenship for Campus, Community, and Careers, each clinic is facilitated by expert practitioners and experienced educators who have designed and scaled VE/COIL initiatives across diverse institutional contexts.

Participants benefit from AAC&U’s evidence-based frameworks, connections to a global community of peers, and practical tools grounded in over a decade of national and international collaboration in VE/COIL.
