Unlock the Power of Authentic Assessment with VALUE
Assessment is often viewed as a hurdle to clear, but its true power lies in how we use it to tell the story of student learning. Join us for "Authentic Assessment with VALUE Rubrics", a hands-on online workshop designed to help you move from checking boxes to generating actionable insights.
In this collaborative 4-hour workshop, we will guide you through the development of a purposeful assessment plan using AAC&U’s VALUE (Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education) rubrics, which were designed to shift the focus of assessment from a compliance-driven process to a collaborative, faculty-led approach that prioritizes essential learning outcomes valued by educators, students, and employers. Together, we will actively work through how to
- articulate clear assessment goals,
- evaluate alignment between a VALUE rubric and an assignment,
- analyze assessment results, and
- identify the most relevant findings to share with various stakeholders.
You will leave with a solid foundation for using VALUE rubrics for authentic assessment and the confidence to translate your results into a compelling narrative of student learning that informs teaching practice and resonates across your institution.
What You'll Gain
- Assessment Plan Best Practices: Learn to develop an assessment plan that is intentional, aligned, sustainable, and grounded in VALUE rubrics.
- Tools and Strategies to Evaluate Student Work: Explore proven processes for collecting, evaluating, and sharing evidence of student learning that can be tailored to your specific context.
- Methods for Using Data to Tell a Compelling Story and Improve Practices: Translate assessment results into a meaningful narrative that communicates student learning and informs improvements to teaching practices and beyond.
The workshop gave me a strong overview of using the VALUE rubrics. I’m happy to have this knowledge as we prep to launch our new gen ed program.
