Checking In with the Skill of Intercultural Communication

The sixth webinar in the AAC&U-CILMAR Global Learning Webinar Series.

May 14, 2025

Intercultural communication is essential for fostering understanding and collaboration in our interconnected world. Developing intercultural communications skills enables learners to approach cultural differences with thoughtfulness and skill, enhancing their ability to communicate effectively across diverse contexts. This webinar explores strategies for helping students build these competencies, bridge cultural divides, and cultivate meaningful connections.

AAC&U’s Intercultural Knowledge and Competence VALUE Rubric provides a framework for understanding and assessing intercultural communication as a key component of intercultural competence. This session will explore how intercultural communication skills are developed, evaluated, and strengthened in educational settings. Facilitators will offer practical strategies for applying the rubric to help you effectively navigate cultural differences in verbal and nonverbal communication across academic, professional, and personal contexts.
