An essay on cultivating the creative process of students through the fictional work "The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World," by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is presented. It offers a review of Creative Thinking rubrics for the creative process in the Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education (VALUE) program and examines the magical realism in the story. The author avers that close reading can lead students to explore creative thinking stages in modeling, creation and reflection.
