Leo Lo

Leo Lo is the Dean of the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences at The University of New Mexico (UNM). He provides leadership for advancing AI literacy and workforce upskilling, emphasizing the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic libraries and beyond. His work focuses on developing AI competencies, ethical guidelines, and comprehensive training programs for library and higher education professionals. As President of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), Lo spearheads initiatives to prepare library professionals for the future. This includes establishing the ACRL Task Force to develop AI competencies for library workers, reflecting his commitment to equipping the workforce with essential AI skills. Lo is also a prolific author and educator. His upcoming book, "AI and the Future Workforce: A Reskilling Guide for Academic Libraries" (ACRL Publishing, forthcoming in late 2025), will provide a comprehensive framework for AI upskilling and is set to be a cornerstone in expanding AI literacy and workforce development. Lo directs several initiatives at UNM, focusing on AI integration, and Open Educational Resources (OER). Under his leadership, UNM received a $2.15 million federal grant to take the leadership role to develop a New Mexico state consortium for OER.
