JT Torres is the Director of the Houston H. Harte Center for Teaching and Learning at Washington & Lee University. He researches the intersection of identity and assessment in educational settings, such as how students rely on feedback and grades to shape their disciplinary, professional, and social selves. Based on his scholarship, he encourages the cultivation of learning environments that empower students through assessment. JT's current work explores how AI disrupts and makes possible formative assessment in different contexts. He is the co-editor of How to Incorporate Equity and Justice in Your Teaching, and the co-author of How to Use Writing for Teaching and Learning,Nonviolent Response: Strategies for Responding to Student Writers, and the arts-based ethnography Situated Narratives and Sacred Dance: Performing the Entangled Histories of Cuba and West Africa.
