Dave Cormier
Learning Specialist, Digital Strategy, University of Windsor
Dave Cormier is an internationally known educational thinker who works at the intersection of technology and pedagogy. Cormier coined the term MOOC in 2008 and contributed to early experimentation in open and rhizomatic learning. Those ideas, as well as his work in creativity and uncertainty in education, have been taught in classrooms around the world. His 2024 book, Learning in a Time of Abundance: The Community Is the Curriculum, was published by Johns Hopkins University Press. This past summer, Dave initiated and facilitated a free international online conference for educators interested in helping students better face uncertainty in their lives and the workplace. This fall, he will be a visiting academic at Deakin University in Australia, for the international CRADLE symposium “How does Generative AI Change Work-Integrated Learning?” As a Learning Specialist in Digital Learning Strategy at the University of Windsor in Canada, Dave has spent much of the last two years working with individual educators and with institutional programs on adapting their understanding of learning and assessment to a GenAI world. With past roles in academic planning, recruitment, student orientation, student mentorship, and retention, Dave is committed to tactical and strategic solutions that support the entire student experience while being practical for faculty and programs.
