Caleb J. Keith

Assistant Vice President for Digital Initiatives

Caleb J. Keith, PhD, is the Assistant Vice President for Digital Initiatives in the Office of Curricular, Pedagogical, and Digital Innovation (OCPDI) at AAC&U, where he advances the association’s mission to promote equity, innovation, and excellence in liberal education. His work focuses on designing and implementing programming that leverages emerging technologies to address key challenges and opportunities in teaching, learning, curriculum, assessment, and student success. 

Prior to joining AAC&U, Caleb held senior leadership positions at Indiana University Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI), including Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Engagement, Director of Institutional Improvement, and Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Survey Research. In these roles, he managed complex institutional research portfolios, guided major assessment and accreditation efforts, coordinated campus-wide program review processes, and produced strategic analyses and reporting for senior leadership. 

Caleb is an active scholar and editor whose work centers on assessment and evaluation, strategic planning, cocurricular learning, technology, and higher education leadership. He serves as consulting editor for the Journal of Student Affairs Inquiry, Improvement, and Impact and is co-editor of multiple scholarly volumes, including Trends in Assessment: Ideas, Opportunities, and Issues for Higher Education (2nd ed.). His forthcoming co-edited Routledge books address reforming general education for institutional leaders and educators, and his publication record includes peer‑reviewed articles, book chapters, and numerous contributions to Assessment Update. 

Earlier in his career, Caleb served in residence life, student affairs, assessment, and academic leadership roles at University of the Ozarks, the University of Georgia, Virginia Tech, Hamad bin Khalifa University (Qatar Foundation), and Millikin University—bringing a comprehensive, cross-functional perspective to his national leadership work.

Caleb holds a PhD in Higher Education from the University of Georgia, where his research examined the use of learner-centered instructional methods among postsecondary faculty. He also earned a Master of Education in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia, along with dual bachelor’s degrees in Commercial Music & Music Business and Communication from Millikin University.
