EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES REVIEW: OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Open Educational Resources have been available for some time now. I first heard of them when a colleague came to tell us about our internal ‘repository’ at Leeds Metropolitan University. This colleague told us that many of us were reproducing similar teaching materials and gave the example of the large number of research methods modules in the University and suggested that we were all ‘re-inventing the wheel’. He encouraged us to think before we wrote new teaching resources from scratch. He also encouraged us to find out what was already available before we started designing new material. He then suggested that it would be beneficial to all of us if we deposited and shared our own materials. Open educational resources now exist at a national and international level as well as at an institutional level. One such resource is Jorum.
