Integrative Learning: Opportunities to Connect
Overview
Integrative Learning: Opportunities to Connect was a collaborative
project of the Association of American Colleges and Universities
and The Carnegie
Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Beginning in January 2004, AAC&U and The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching worked with campuses to create programs for integrative learning that were purposeful and progressively more challenging across the years of a degree program.
The Campuses
The project started by identifying ten campuses that had already made significant progress in developing integrative learning strategies and were committed to deepening that work. The project aimed to create new resources, networks, models and evidence-based arguments that would both strengthen the work of these campuses and prove useful to other institutions. The ten campuses were:
Carleton College (Northfield, MN)
College of San Mateo (San Mateo, CA)
LaGuardia Community College /CUNY (Long Island City, NY)
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (North Adams, MA)
Michigan State University (East Lansing, MI)
Philadelphia University (Philadelphia, PA)
Portland State University (Portland, OR)
Salve Regina University (Newport, RI)
State University of New York College at Oswego (Oswego, NY)
University of Charleston (Charleston, WV)
Project Results and Reports
The Integrative Learning Project's Public Report (Web based) includes individual summaries of the ten campus projects. Each summary covers the “lessons learned” during the project to assist others in developing programs in integrative learning. The public report also includes links to publications and resources, several short essays, and video clips of presentations at project meetings.
