Advocacy for Liberal Learning at AAC&U
The Association of American Colleges and Universities
works to make the aims of liberal learning a vigorous and constant influence on institutional purpose and educational practice in higher education. At both the national and the local level, the association advocates for an engaged liberal education for all students that empowers them with broad knowledge and transferable skills, and a strong sense of values, ethics, and civic engagement. The association also works to help individual colleges and universities keep the quality of student learning at the core of their work as they evolve to meet new economic and social challenges.
AAC&U launched a major advocacy campaign in 2005 called Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP). LEAP is a ten-year campaign to champion the value of a liberal education—for individual students and for a nation dependent on economic creativity and democratic vitality.
AAC&U is also a founding member of the National Humanities Alliance (NHA), which provides public advocacy for the value of the humanities in a democratic society and works to ensure continuing support for the National Endowment for the Humanities. The President of AAC&U serves on the Board of NHA.
