Julius Sokenu
President, Moorpark College
Julius O. Sokenu is the president of Moorpark College with nearly 30 years of progressive leadership experience in community college education. Prior to his current assignment, he was vice president of academic affairs and executive vice president and, before that, dean of student learning at Moorpark.
He is committed to student access and success. His professional work has focused on developing career programs to prepare students for high-skill, high-wage, high-demand employment. He was the president of the California Community College Association of Occupational Education.
Sokenu serves on the City of Moorpark General Plan Advisory Committee, the American Heart Association of Ventura County Executive Council, and the Moorpark College Foundation. He is also involved with the Ventura County Leadership Academy, vice president of the California Community College League’s LGBTQ+ Caucus, and co-chair of the Racial Equity and Inclusive Excellence Taskforce.
Sokenu holds a doctorate in education with an emphasis in curriculum and teaching from Boston University, an MFA in creative writing from Arizona State University, and a bachelor’s degree in business and English from the University of Southern California. He is a published poet and writer.
