The American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) congratulates Santa Ono, president and vice chancellor of the University of British Columbia and member of the AAC&U Board of Directors, on his appointment as president of the University of Michigan.

“Santa is an extraordinary leader, who has demonstrated a commitment to equity, innovation, and excellence in liberal education throughout his career,” said AAC&U President Lynn Pasquerella. “I am thrilled for Santa and for the University of Michigan.”

Dr. Ono joined the AAC&U Board of Directors in 2022. He served previously as president of the University of Cincinnati and as senior vice-provost and deputy to the provost at Emory University. A molecular immunologist, he has taught at Johns Hopkins, Harvard University, and University College London.
