2019 Information for Participants

Dates and Times:

For teams attending the Institute on Integrative Learning and Signature Work (ILSW), the Institute runs from Tuesday, July 16 through Friday, July 19. Please plan to arrive no later than 3:00pm on Tuesday, July 16 to allow time for check-in. You may check-in at the residence halls as early as 12:00pm. We cannot guarantee housing on the nights of Monday, July 15 or Friday, July 19. Team Leaders are required to attend the Team Leader meeting at 4:00pm on Tuesday, July 16th. The Institute begins for all participants with the Opening Plenary at 5:30pm on Tuesday, July 16, followed by a poster session and reception. The Institute will conclude with lunch on Friday afternoon, July 19, adjourning no later than 2:00pm.

For the teams attending the Institute on Interfaith Excellence (IIE), you are expected to arrive on Monday, July 15 and depart on Friday, July 19. Please make your travel plans to reflect this. You may check-in to the residence halls as early as 12:00pm. The institute will begin with an IFYC-AAC&U project meeting and luncheon from 12:00pm - 4:00pm on Tuesday, July 16. Registration materials will be available at the project meeting for each participant. The IIE teams will then join with the ILSW teams for a joint opening of both Institutes at 5:30pm on July 16th. IIE and ILSW teams will remain combined for the duration of the Institutes, allowing teams access to all offered sessions.

Travel to Emory: All participants are responsible for arranging travel to and from Emory University.

From Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

Take Interstate 85 North and exit at Clairmont Road (exit 91). Turn right at the top of the ramp and proceed south on Clairmont Road about three miles to North Decatur Road. Turn right on North Decatur Road. Proceed approximately one mile to Clifton Road and turn right. You will see Emory campus buildings. Refer to the Emory Campus Map for directions to your residence hall.

If you need transportation to campus from the airport, you may ride the Atlanta Airport Shuttle, take a taxicab, or utilize MARTA, Atlanta’s public transportation system:

• The Greater Atlanta Airport Shuttle Service Company provides shuttles to and from the airport 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year. One-way fares begin at around $35. Call (678)-851-7063 or visit http://www.gaairportshuttle.com to make a reservation.

• Taxi - The fare from the airport to Emory is around $28 - $40.

• MARTA - From the airport, take the MARTA train Northbound to the Lindbergh Station. Exit the train at Lindbergh and then board the #6 bus which will make multiple stops on the Emory campus. The fare is $2.00.

Parking: For guests arriving on campus with a vehicle, a parking permit is required. When you arrive at housing registration, you will need to inform conference staff that you need a permit. Make sure to take note of your tag number to provide during residence hall check-in. Guests will park in the Peavine Parking Deck, located directly behind the Woodruff Physical Education building. The parking permit must be displayed whenever your car is on campus. During the summer months a shuttle will run every 5-7 minutes from the Peavine Parking Deck to Woodruff Residence Hall.

Lodging: Lodging will be located in Woodruff Residence Hall and Longstreet-Means Residence Hall. Each participant will have his or her own room and share an adjoining bathroom connecting two rooms. The following items are provided in your room: single bed, clothes storage, desk, and chair. Linen service will be provided and includes: two sheets, one pillowcase, one pillow, two towels, one washcloth, and one blanket.

Recommended Items to Bring: The following items are not provided, so you may wish to bring your own: Alarm Clocks, Reading Lamps, Hangers, Personal Hygiene Products. Participants may also wish to bring additional towels, bathrobes and shower shoes. If you need any items in addition to what is provided, we encourage you to bring your own, or ask upon arrival where items can be purchased. Please remember that no cooking is allowed in the residence hall rooms. Each residence hall has acommunity kitchen available, but no kitchen utensils are provided.

No Family Members or Visitors: If you are thinking of building a family vacation into your travel, you should schedule family time either before or after the Institute. The Institute schedule is intensive and does not provide for free time during the day. There are no accommodations on campus for family members or visitors, nor may they attend Institute events.

Meals: Breakfast and lunch will be provided in the cafeteria located on the first floor of the Emory Student Center on Wednesday and Thursday. Just breakfast will be offered in the cafeteria on Friday. We will end with a lunch on Friday afternoon. Dinners are on your own. You will receive a cafeteria swipe card at residence hall check-in. Please make sure to return this card at check-out on Friday.

Tobacco-Free Campus: The use or sale of tobacco products in or on Emory-owned or Emory-leased property is prohibited. This policy applies to faculty, staff, students, contractors, vendors and visitors. The use of tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco, clove cigarettes and e-cigarettes, is not permitted on any university-owned or leased property, which includes but is not limited to, buildings, university grounds, parking areas, walkways, recreational and sporting facilities and university-owned vehicles. This prohibition includes smoking in personal vehicles parked on university grounds.

Dress: Dress will be casual throughout the week. In July, daytime temperatures can reach highs in the 80s with lows in the 70s.

Computers and Internet Access: We recommend that each team bring at least one laptop and USB flash drive device for use during the Institute. Each guest will receive complimentary Wi-Fi access. The network you will join is “Emory Guest” and you will be asked to register to the network every 24 hours during your stay.

Printing and photocopying: We urge you to think ahead and do any photocopying you need prior to your arrival. There is a printing center on campus in the ground floor of Few Hall.
