CANCELED: AAC&U Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Student Success
AAC&U regrets to announce that the 2020 Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Student Success has been canceled.
The health and safety of conference participants and AAC&U staff members are our highest priorities and were the determining factors in this difficult decision.
As the conference dates approach, we have been closely monitoring developments related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The number of confirmed cases has continued to rise. The outbreak has continued to spread. Several states have declared a state of emergency or a public health emergency.
Meanwhile, colleges, universities, and state systems across the country have taken measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19, including the imposition of restrictions on domestic travel. These prudent restrictions, along with the health concerns of individual registrants and the desire of many to remain on campus in order to assist in their institutions’ responses to the outbreak, also influenced the decision to cancel the conference.
Planning is currently underway to present selected keynote sessions and conference workshops virtually, and materials from concurrent session presentations will be posted online.
Those who registered for the 2020 Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Student Success will soon receive information via email about virtual participation or refund options.
All conference-related hotel reservations at the New Orleans Marriott, the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel, and the Le Méridien New Orleans have been canceled. Those wishing to reinstate their reservation should contact the hotel directly.
AAC&U is deeply grateful to the extraordinary community of students, educators, policymakers, and administrators who had planned to convene in New Orleans next week to demonstrate the power of collective action. We will continue to keep you informed about plans for moving the conference program online.
