Program Coordinator, Diversity, Equity, and Student Success

The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), a national higher education organization committed to improving the quality of undergraduate education, seeks a self-motivated, detail-oriented, and creative individual for the position of Program Coordinator in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Student Success (DESS).

The DESS Program Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative and programmatic support for two AAC&U Institutes. These include the Institutes on Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT) Campus Centers, and High-Impact Practices and Student Success.


These tasks include, but are not limited to:

  1. AAC&U Institutes
    • Coordinate and implement the logistics for the HIPs and TRHT Institutes
    • Oversight of location selection, contract negotiation, and all communication with onsite conference services
    • Maintain and upload programming and attendance tracking and data entry
    • Manage communications with institute faculty and teams
    • Provide administrative support for the application and selection process
    • Manage the development and distribution of all programming materials within budget guidelines
    • Manage technology and website development for the institutes.
  2. Contribute to the efficient functioning of DESS through active participation in team meetings, information sharing, reporting, and attendance at professional conferences and functions related to the work of the office.
  3. Other duties as assigned.


  • Experience with event planning
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, and editing skills
  • Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office suite, Office365 Mail & Box, Nexonia, Skype for Business, and webpage design programs 
  • Database management skills including familiarity with Excel
  • Outstanding attention to detail, with understanding of larger contexts
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Dependability, flexibility, and strict confidentiality
  • Experience maintaining and monitoring budgets
  • An understanding of and commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to work both collaboratively, as a member of a team, and independently to accomplish goals
  • Effective time management skills; ability to balance and set priorities among many tasks and meet deadlines
  • Interest in higher education issues, particularly related to diversity, equity, and student success
  • Self-directed ability to thrive in a fast-paced advocacy organization at the center of higher education reform

At least 2-3 years of work experience in higher education and/or meeting planning required. A bachelor’s degree is also required, and a master’s degree is plus.
