2013 PKAL North Carolina Regional Network Fall Meeting
Promoting STEM Student Success, Engagement, and Retention
The goal of the North Carolina PKAL Regional Network is to bring STEM educators together to discuss and share ideas on ‘what works’ in STEM education. The third NC Network meeting will focus on issues of interest to the group through:
- faculty showcasing and discussing ideas and innovations in curriculum
- discussion of potential Inter-institutional collaborations on pedagogy and assessment around curricular challenges
- brainstorming of ideas on the future directions of the NC PKAL Network.
Using the PKAL philosophy of active experiential learning, each session will provide disciplinary and cross disciplinary interaction and collaboration. Each participant will leave with an action plan, contact information of advocates and supporters and data and information to take back to their institutions for discussion and action. Why form a network?
A NC PKAL Network will leverage the expertise and experience of STEM educators within the state of North Carolina to facilitate greater engagement of STEM faculty and administrators to implement more effective, learner-centered teaching strategies to improve student learning and success in STEM education. As a result of faculty and administrator involvement in the NC PKAL Network, a strong, interconnected community that is focused on improving student learning and achievement in the STEM fields will grow.
The development of this network builds on the success of past and present PKAL initiatives focusing on developing leaders with the vision, political skills, and personal commitment to make a difference in American higher education in STEM fields. Your participation in the NC PKAL Network is critical to the future of our collective work in improving undergraduate STEM education for the success of all students, majors and non-majors alike.
The event starts at 10:00 am and concludes at 4:30 pm. Registration and coffee take place from 9:00 - 10:00 am.
