2014 Los Angeles Regional Meeting: Keck/PKAL STEM Education Effectiveness Framework Project

Goals

  • Share project results, challenges and achievements with other teams.
  • Provide feedback on contributions to the final Framework project documents, publication and dissemination plans.
  • Provide time for teams to meet and plan future campus actions.
  • Recommend future steps for the next phase of the Framework project.

Agenda

9:30 – 10:00 am: Arrival and Coffee

10:00 - 11:00 am: Welcome and Team Presentations

Facilitator: Susan Elrod, Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, California State University - Fresno

Brief opening presentation on meeting goals/agenda for the day followed by teams presentations. Teams will be asked to present the following information:

  • Campus project vision and goals for STEM education
  • Brief summary of how success was/will be measured
  • STEM education programs/interventions piloted/implemented to meet goals
  • Process used to plan, pilot and implement (e.g., team composition, communication plan, buy-in activities, funding, etc.)
  • Results (so far, challenges encountered & lessons learned)
  • Next Steps

Each team has 10-15 minutes to present and have others ask questions. (Note: depending on number or teams attending meeting, the morning times may be adjusted).  

11:00 am - Noon: Discussion of Final Framework and Campus Case Study Format

Facilitators: Adrianna Kezar, Professor of Education & Co-Director, Pullias Center, University of Southern California; Susan Elrod, Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, California State University - Fresno

Presentation of outline/drafts for team feedback and suggestions. Establish expectations for team contributions, project dissemination and publication activities.

Noon - 1:00 pm: Cross team lunch and sharing

Participants sit together in cross team lunch tables for sharing and interaction.

1:00 - 2:00 pm: Team time

Teams meet together to draft case study outline, further discuss readiness survey and data analysis toolkit, plan next steps for campus projects and make recommendations for the next phase of the Framework Project.  

2:00 - 3:00 pm: Team Report Outs & Next Steps for Next Phase Framework Project
