Marketing and Media Relations Associate

The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), a national higher education organization committed to improving the quality of undergraduate education, seeks a Marketing and Media Relations Associate in the Office of Communications and Public Affairs.

The Marketing and Media Relations Associate will report to the Vice President of the Office of Communications and Public Affairs (VPOCPA) and will assist with various projects related to both marketing and media relations. Major responsibilities include preparation and distribution of marketing emails; tracking and reporting on key metrics related to marketing campaigns; management of website content; preparation and distribution of press releases; coordination of webinars; provision of general administrative support. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing

  • In coordination with the Director of Digital Communications and various teams across the association, support the planning, implementation, execution, and monitoring of various marketing campaigns
  • Implement and execute email communications for AAC&U programs, products, events, and services
  • Execute marketing automation campaigns based on segmentation, user behavior, or customer data
  • Manage e-mail communications calendar for scheduling and tracking
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of promotional materials
  • Create and maintain marketing campaign reports on key metrics
  • In coordination with staff of the Office of Advancement and Member Engagement, assist with the preparation and distribution of membership-related marketing materials
  • Develop and create all mailing lists used for AAC&U marketing efforts
  • Oversee the process of drafting and editing marketing materials
  • Update and manage website content, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of web content
  • Provide support for AAC&U’s social media presence
  • Assist with basic video editing needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Media Relations

  • In coordination with VPOCPA, conduct media outreach by proactively seeking press coverage and pitching sources and stories, as appropriate
  • Prepare and distribute press releases
  • Monitor media sources for relevant stories and compile clips for various tracking purposes
  • Maintain media contact list
  • Respond to media outlets to inform them of errors or misrepresentations
  • Prepare quarterly media report for AAC&U board of directors

Webinars

  • Coordinate the scheduling, logistics, and production of webinars
  • Liaise with the IT team and serve as administrator of the webinar program
  • Provide webinar production support in real time by participating in live webinars
  • Assist with creation of marketing emails and lists in association with webinars as needed

Admin

  • Collaborate with staff of the IT department to ensure the overall quality of the data in the AAC&U database.
  • Track AAC&U activity related to public policy and prepare quarterly policy report
  • Maintain sections of the AAC&U website
  • Provide general administrative support to the Office of Communications and Public Affairs

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet frequent deadlines
  • Experience with digital marketing, media relations, electronic and print communications
  • Understanding of existing and emerging inbound marketing approaches, social media platforms, and SEO
  • Experience with Critical Impact, Higher Logic, or other email marketing platform
  • Basic video editing skills
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Experience in implementing and managing social media campaigns
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment in a service-oriented membership organization
  • Knowledge of higher education and its contemporary issues preferred
