LEAP State: Washington

Member Organization: WaCLA, Washington (State) Consortium for the Liberal Arts. Two- and four-year public and private colleges and universities, organizations, and individuals

Year Joined: 2015

LEAP State Mission: Organized in 2012, WaCLA intends to advance state-wide dialogues with key stakeholders—including business leaders, K-12 educators, policymakers, civic leaders, and elected officials—about the role of liberal education and the essential learning outcomes in advancing statewide goals for economic and civic vitality and for school reform; and increase public and policy awareness of effective policies that increase both completion rates and educational quality.

Featured Engagement Strategy: WaCLA plans to advocate for the value of the liberal arts for the broadest range of citizens in preparation for work, life, and meaningful participation in our democracy. In 2014 WaCLA co-sponsored an Employer/Educator Forum with AAC&U and also won the national Phi Beta Kappa Key of Excellence Award.  Proceeds of the award are being used toward a student-centered public relations campaign to promote the liberal arts.  WaCLA is promoting and developing 2- and 4-year, public and private institutional partnerships through joint discussions across campuses. By explaining and advocating the value of the liberal arts, WaCLA is building support and understanding of the LEAP essential learning outcomes. See WaCLA Home: http://www.evergreen.edu/wacla.
