Forming a Team and Creating a Strong Application

Institute Campus Teams

Previously, campus teams have consisted of faculty, provosts, deans, department chairs, student affairs educators, registrars, librarians, and students. When building your own campus team, it is crucial to take the following factors into account:

• A campus team typically consists of a team leader and four team members.
• Team leaders are most often senior academic or student affairs officers.
• Teams should be diverse, therefore be conscious of recruiting:
  • Faculty from a variety of disciplines.
  • Individuals from various campus sectors that will be significantly involved in the projected campus work.
  • Key individuals who could extend the reach of the action plan.

Preparation for the Institute

Prior to attending the Institute, campus teams will be asked to complete a campus inventory, to complete pre-Institute readings, and to reflect upon existing institutional practices and what they hope to gain at the Institute.

The online application consists of an information section and responses to the following prompts:

• Provide a brief summary of your institution’s context including an overview of student populations.
• How will your participation in the HIPs and Student Success Institute align with your institution’s mission and your current strategic priorities and goals related to the design, implementation, and assessment of high-impact practices?
• Describe how your institution's work at the HIPs and Student Success Institute will support improvements in student success outcomes for all students and specifically, populations traditionally underserved in higher education?
• What are your institution's existing strategies for promoting access to high-impact practices and embedding them across the curriculum and co-curriculum? Please include which individuals/groups are involved in these efforts.
• What data are you currently collecting to inform decisions related to your institution's efforts with high-impact practices to achieve equity in student success outcomes, and to increase student engagement with HIPs?
• Is there a specific project or initiative you plan to develop at the HIPs Institute to advance your goals (please outline specific tasks related to the project or initiative that you hope to achieve at the Institute)?
• What is your rationale for choosing the members of your campus team?
