Forming a Team and Creating a Strong Application

Institute Campus Teams

In the past, TRHT Campus Center teams have included faculty, deans, departments chairs, community liaisons and members, chief diversity officers, and students. When building your own campus team, consider the following:

  • A TRHT Campus Center team typically consists of a team leader and four team members, including at least one representative from a community partner organization.
  • Team leaders are often senior academic or student affairs officers.
  • Teams should be diverse, therefore be conscious of recruiting:
    • Individuals from various campus sectors who will be significantly involved in the projected TRHT work.
    • Key campus and community stakeholders who could extend the reach of the TRHT Campus Center.
  • Given that the goal is to prepare the next generation of strategic thinkers, campus teams should consider inviting students to participate.

Preparation for the Institute

Prior to attending the Institute, TRHT Campus Center teams will be asked to develop a vision statement, to identify possible community partners, to complete pre-Institute readings, and to reflect upon the existing TRHT framework and how the work aligns with their institutions’ strategic priorities. Engaging in this preparation will allow teams to best use their time together to identify strategies and practices for successful implementation of action plans that they will develop while at the Institute.

The online application consists of informational sections and responses to the following prompts:

  • What led your institution to apply to the Institute?
  • How does participation in the Institute align with your institution’s mission and current academic or strategic priorities?
  • The goals of the TRHT Campus Centers are to promote racial healing on campus and in the community, and to erase structural barriers to equal treatment and opportunity. Taking these goals into consideration, what is your institution’s vision for your TRHT efforts?
  • What are your institution's existing or emerging strategies for dismantling the false belief in a hierarchy of human value, for addressing and creating positive narrative change concerning race, and for addressing contemporary impacts of difference and bias in our educational environments?
  • What meaningful alliances with key stakeholders, both within your institution and in the local community, will you engage and develop to help you achieve your TRHT vision?
  • What specific goals does your team plan to advance at the TRHT Institute?
