Institute Curriculum

The Institute curriculum is built on two commitments.  First, a high-quality liberal education should be the standard of excellence for all students—inclusively.  Second, intentional approaches to achieving equity can help educational programs engage diversity and build intercultural competence as essential elements of a contemporary liberal education.  The Institute curriculum provides opportunities for in-depth study and planning as well as offering resources and guidance.  The 2016 institute will build themes and topics drawn from participant applications.

The Institute will address

  • Fostering a HIPs philosophy and mindset that sustains effort from year to year
  • Aligning courses and programs into learning pathways, ensuring equitable access for all students
  • Selecting best practices for integrating HIPs into curricular and co-curricular programs
  • Supporting faculty development for student-centered pedagogies that are inclusive and aim for equitable outcomes
  • Designing and assessing the quality of HIPs at a course and institutional leve
  • Building collaboration to ensure that campus programs work toward equity goals
  • Offering strategies for weaving HIPs into campus culture
