A Hybrid Learning Experience
The Institute on General Education, Pedagogy, and Assessment (iGEPA)—formerly known as the Institute on General Education and Assessment—provides campus teams with opportunities to refine and advance general education curricula through enhanced approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment. With a deep and abiding commitment to ensuring that access to an excellent undergraduate education is available to all, the Institute maintains a laser-like focus on issues of quality and equity as part of the campus change and innovation process.
Through virtual and in-person events, consultations, mentorship, and cross-team interactions, the curriculum provides both “nuts-and-bolts” tools and pragmatic strategies while connecting to the latest research in leading institutional innovation, successful change management, curricular coherence and student success. Participating teams explore proven strategies to provide career-relevant experiences, integrate general education within majors, craft programs that link student learning with today’s pressing social issues, accurately evaluate program efficacy, and lead and innovate in challenging circumstances. Participating teams will design their own campus action plan for reimaging general education, pedagogy, and assignment. Institute faculty will serve as partners for campus plan development. Campus teams can expect consultative opportunities to interact with Institute faculty throughout iGEPA as their plan progresses and is implemented. These plans will help provide answers to the perennial question, “Why do I need to take this class?”
