Manager, Conference and Events

The American Association and Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), a national higher education organization committed to improving the quality of undergraduate education, seeks a self-motivated, detail-oriented Manager, Conference and Events to assist the Conference & Events team in all aspects of the development and delivery of AAC&U’s conferences, events, and related projects. The position will provide administrative/logistical support to the meetings portfolio consisting of an annual series of working conferences and events, collaboratively designed, and led by experienced practitioners and drawing from AAC&U's member campuses and projects.

The Manager, Conference and Event is a valuable member of the Conference & Events team. This position will report to the Director, Conference and Events, and will support event registration and logistics for AAC&U meetings and conferences (in-person and digital), including the Annual Meeting.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and monitor the annual budget for conferences and events working along with Meetings team
  • Review, evaluate, and/or negotiate conference venue contracts and identify and confirm conference locations
  • Oversee proposal review process
  • Assist with consultation, planning and implementation of program and logistical details under the direction of the Director, and work with concept advisors for AAC&U conferences and events
  • In collaboration with the Director, work with concept advisor and appropriate staff for each conference to begin planning and coordinating logistics and timeline for conferences
  • Serve as liaison between both internal and external partners (including, concept advisors, speakers, presenters, and/or AAC&U staff)
  • Collaborate with Communications and Office of Advancement and Member Engagement staff on implementation of marketing materials, strategies and sponsorship activities
  • Plan and provide support for designing program framework, potential speakers for pre-conference workshops, plenaries, and other featured presentations in collaboration with concept advisors, staff, and meetings office
  • Support all aspects of conference logistics as needed
  • Review evaluations for each conference and recommend changes based on an analysis of evaluations
  • Ability to travel, when appropriate, for on-site conference management


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • CMP preferred
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience with conference event experience (experience in higher education or non-profit organization is a plus)
  • Experience with database management and other digital platforms and comfort with virtual engagement
  • Experience in a fast-paced, multi-event environment
  • Demonstrate successful project management, time management, an ability to multitask, and strong organizational and planning skills
  • Experience with contracts for hotels and other vendors
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to be resourceful
  • Experience in a fast-paced, multi-event environment
