New Leadership Alliance for Student Learning and Assessment
AAC&U is a founding member of the New Leadership Alliance for Student Learning and Assessment, which was established in 2009 to improve student learning through voluntary and cooperative efforts to significantly improve assessment of, and accountability for, student learning outcomes. It also aims to convey to the higher education community and the larger public the importance of a quality college education in preparation for work, life, and responsible citizenship. The alliance’s goals are based on a statement, New Leadership for Student Learning, (pdf) originally released by AAC&U and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, and include encouraging colleges and universities to set clear and ambitious goals for learning, gathering meaningful evidence about how well students are achieving those goals, and using that information to improve programs. AAC&U President Carol Schneider is a member of the Alliance Board of Directors.
