Preparing Students for an Era
of Greater Expectations
In 2002, as part of a large, multi-project initiative, AAC&U
published the influential report Greater
Expectations: A New Vision for Learning as a Nation Goes to
College. This report maps out for those within and
outside of the academy the changing world in which higher
education institutions now operate. It calls for a new compact
between higher education and American society dedicated to
providing all students an engaged and practical liberal education.
Building on the findings of this report, AAC&U is identifying
and helping campuses develop innovative curricular
and pedagogical models that improve undergraduate student
learning. AAC&U is also forging links with the best aspects
of secondary school reform in order to raise levels of student
achievement and improve readiness for college.
