Making Excellence Inclusive

Making Excellence Inclusive seeks to underscore the belief that the academy cannot achieve excellence without inclusion. This initiative also seeks to link the next generation of work on diversity and inclusion with ongoing work on raising levels of academic achievement. It is designed to assist campuses as they prepare all students for citizenship in a diverse but stratified society, and it will provide frameworks that measure excellence in ways that capture the full span of human expressions of thought, leadership, and responsible action. The initiative will involve multiple projects and publications that increase organizational leadership and learning, support high levels of student achievement, and strengthen pathways to and through college for all students.

Making Excellence Inclusive combines insights gained from AAC&U's long history of work in diversity and equity as well as newer work on educational quality. The initiative benefits from AAC&U's national leadership on issues of women in higher education, including its Program on the Status and Education of Women, and, though its American Commitments initiative, on transforming college curriucula to better reflect the diversity of American society and the world.
