Tips for Women in Community Colleges

CCCC

The Conference on College Composition and Communication hosts on its Web site a list of resources for women and adjunct faculty in community colleges. Including articles by researchers Sandra L. Clark, Susan B. Twombly, and Lisa Wolf-Wendel, as well as recent news items from Inside Higher Ed, the bibliography suggests a number of helpful resources on the changing community college landscape and the challenges facing women faculty. To access the list (which includes direct links to articles), visit www.ncte.org/cccc/committees/statusofwomen/twoyear.

Community College Women’s Studies Web

CC Women's Studies Web

Created by Lindsy Gollihar in support of her final project at San Francisco State University, Community College Women’s Studies Web provides a compendium of information on women’s studies programs in California community colleges. Seeking to fill what she perceived as a hole in the field, Gollihar has identified women’s studies programs in community colleges across the state and compiled a bibliography of writings on women in community colleges. To access these resources and Gollihar’s writings on the project, visit www.ccwsw.org.

Women’s Studies Programs

NWSA Women's Studies Programs

The spring 2009 issue of Ms. Magazine celebrated almost forty years of women’s studies with special features on the diverse array of over nine hundred women’s studies programs now offered in U.S. colleges and universities. In conjunction with the special issue, Ms. Magazine partnered with the National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA) to host a searchable database of women’s studies programs—including many at community colleges—on the NWSA Web site. To access the database, visit www.nwsa.org/msmag/index.php.

The Gender Pay Gap

AAUW Gender Pay Gap

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) hosts on its Web site an interactive map showing the state-by-state disparities in pay between men and women workers. Using 2007 figures collected by the American Community Survey, the tool illustrates wage gaps for college workers age twenty-five and older as well as for all workers age sixteen and older, and ranks the states in terms of pay equity. To access the map, visit www.aauw.org/research/statedata/index.cfm.
