The Art of Gender in Everyday Life VI

The Janet C. Anderson Gender Resource Center at Idaho State University will host “The Art of Gender in Everyday Life VI” on April 2-3, 2009. The conference “will explore the various ways in which gender is crafted, celebrated, endured, deciphered, expressed or, in short, the art of how it is lived on a daily basis,” with special focus on four topics: gender and livelihood, gender and activism, gender identities, and gender and the arts. Leadership and Women of Color Fifth Anniversary Conference

Spelman College will host “Leadership and Women of Color: Where Do We Go From Here?” on May 13-14, 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference is sponsored by the LEADS program, whose mission is “to develop and teach a leadership model based on the experiences of African American women leaders.” For more information, visit www.spelmanwomenofcolorconf.com

HERS (Higher Education Resource Services) Institutes 2009-10

HERS Institutes offer women administrators the chance to develop their leadership skills through several residential programs offered throughout the year. During 2009-10, institutes will be held at Bryn Mawr College from June 20-July 15 (application deadline: March 1); University of Denver on August 2-7, September 11-12, October 23-24, and November 13-14 (application deadline: May 1); and Wellesley College on October 15-17, November 20-21, January 29-30, March 11-13, and April 9-10 (application deadline: June 1). Calls for Papers

AGELE 2009 Conference

The Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education (AGELE) has issued a call for presenters for its 2009 conference, to be held from August 1-3 in Manhattan Beach, California. Possible themes include gender and multicultural issues, gender and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and legal interpretations of Title IX, among others. Proposals are due March 1, 2009. For more information, visit www.agele.org.

Signs: Feminists Theorize International Political Economy

The women’s studies journal Signs has issued a call for papers for its fall 2010 issue on the feminist scholarship of the global political economy. As described on the Web site, “This special issue seeks to employ postcolonial feminist theorizing and feminist theorizations of difference as central axes in analyses of international political economy. We invite submissions that address the gendered regimes of capitalist production and consumption, systems of exchange, and struggles for emancipation and equality.” Submission deadline is May 1, 2009. Funding Opportunities

Hyde Graduate Student Research Grants (Psychology)

The Society for the Psychology of Women offers graduate research grants of up to $500 to students engaging in feminist psychology research. The grants are funded by Janet Shibley Hyde, author of Half the Human Experience. Applications are due semiannually, on March 15 and September 15.
