Leadership Development

Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Institutes 2008-2009

During 2008-2009, HERS will offer three institutes on “Leadership and Management Development for Women in Higher Education.” Participants develop strategic vision and organizational skills to better manage resources for optimal institutional impact. This year’s programs will take place at Bryn Mawr College, the University of Denver, and Wellesley College; institute dates and application deadlines vary by location. The Art of Gender in Everyday Life V

“The Art of Gender in Everyday Life V: A Multidisciplinary Conference” will occur on March 6-7, 2008, at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID. This year’s conference will “explore the various ways in which gender is crafted, celebrated, endured, deciphered, expressed or, in short, the art of how it is lived on a daily basis,” with special focus on gender and the arts, gender in popular culture, and gender and the body. 2008 Economic Justice Summit

The Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), along with the NOW Foundation and the National Council of Negro Women, will host this year’s Economic Justice Summit from April 10-12 at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. This year’s conference, titled “Bringing Together Research and Advocacy from Local to Global to Advance Economic Justice and Empowerment for Women,” will convene interested parties offering a range of perspectives, from grassroots activists to governmental policymakers. National Council for Research on Women 2008 Conference

The National Council for Research on Women will hold its annual conference on June 5-7, 2008, in New York City. This year’s conference is entitled “Hitting the Ground Running: Research, Activism, and Leadership for a New Era.” Featured speakers include Charlotte Bunch, founder and executive director of the Center for Women’s Global Leadership at Rutgers University, Ellie Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation, and Beverly Guy Sheftall, founding director of the Women’s Research and Resource Center at Spelman College. National Women’s Studies Association 2008 Conference

The National Women’s Studies Association’s annual conference will take place on June 19-22, 2008, at the Millennium Hotel in downtown Cincinnati. The conference’s title is “Resisting Hegemonies: Race and Sexual Politics in Nation, Region, Empire,” and Patricia Hill Collins, social theorist and author of From Black Power to Hip Hop: Racism, Nationalism, and Feminism, will be the featured speaker. Funding Opportunities

Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program

The Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program will offer approximately forty awards to senior faculty in a variety of disciplines for the 2009-2010 academic year. Funding will support faculty work in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Israel, and several countries in Europe/Eurasia. U.S. citizenship is required. Application deadline is May 1, 2008. National Science Foundation: International Research Fellowship Program
