Women's Global Education Project

Women's Global Education Project

The Women’s Global Education Project tackles the problem of global poverty by improving women’s access to education. Noting that the benefits of educating women extend far beyond the lives of individuals to affect society at all levels, the project works with local organizations to create scholarships and education awareness programs. The project currently focuses its efforts on sub-Saharan Africa, where it supports such programs as “Sisters to School” in Senegal, West Africa. For more information, visit www.womensglobal.org.

Global Fund for Women

Global Fund for Women

The Global Fund for Women supplies grants to advance women’s equity around the world. Funded projects promote such causes as women’s economic security, education, health, leadership, and safe environments, and combat violence against women and human trafficking. The Fund periodically releases impact reports (available online) on issues such as the effect of natural disasters on women and strategies for women’s economic growth. For information about grants or to learn more about the fund’s work, visit www.globalfundforwomen.org/cms/.

Global Feminisms Project, University of Michigan

Global Feminisms Project, University of Michigan

In collaboration with researchers in China, India, and Poland, members of the Global Feminisms Project, a venture of the University of Michigan’s Institute for Research on Women and Gender, have inquired into the history of global feminism. Participants collected oral histories of women scholars and activists around the globe. Interviews of forty-two women or activist groups are now available for purchase in DVD format. For more information about the project and its culminating conference (held in September 2006), visit www.umich.edu/~glblfem/.

Women for Women International

Women for Women International

By connecting women in conflict-affected countries with sponsors in the United States and other politically stable nations, Women for Women International provides “macro solutions” to “micro issues.” Sponsors contribute $27 per month to the education and financial support of a “sister” with whom they exchange letters of support. To learn more about Women for Women International’s approach to global feminist networks, visit www.womenforwomen.org.

Center on Women and Public Policy: Case Studies

Center on Women and Public Policy: Case Studies

Noting that less than one percent of case studies used in public policy programs address women’s issues “or even feature a female protagonist,” the University of Minnesota’s Center on Women and Public Policy has set out to correct the disparity. The Center’s Web site includes a number of free case studies focused on women’s issues. To read more about case studies featuring women and to download individual case studies, visit www.hhh.umn.edu/centers/wpp/.
