The Women's Leadership Project for Inclusive Excellence (WLPIE), a project of Campus Women Lead (CWL), launched its first pilot workshop at the University of Virginia in March 2006. Gertrude Fraser, the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement at UVA, brought three facilitators in to lead a WLPIE workshop for 27 women over 2 days. The participants evaluated the workshop positively and we're thrilled to have officially launched this new project! Included below is information on how to bring a CWL/WLPIE workshop to your campus.
If you're eager to jump-start educational transformation on your campus, tap existing talent in women and develop new skills in others, and create more inclusive academic institutions, then you should consider bringing a Campus Women Lead Workshop to your college or university. These workshops seek to promote women's leadership as an every day, everywhere practice that functions at its best when it builds multicultural alliances across different people, sectors, and levels. Focused on leadership rather than career-ship, these workshops help participants analyze their individual location within larger systems, understand cultural resources as integral to effective leadership, and gain new confidence to use their sphere of influence to build the kind of institutions we need in our diverse, interdependent but stratified world.
Through dialogue, personal and systemic analysis, and capacity building exercises, the workshops aim to create new methods and spaces for communication and learning that redefine what leadership is and can become. While CWL workshops will include signature features, CWL facilitators will work closely with their hosts to incorporate the institution's needs, goals, and specific historical context into the workshop.
