The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) has established its mission to “advance academic freedom and shared governance, to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, and to ensure higher education's contribution to the common good.” As part of this mission, AAUP formed the Committee on Women in the Academic Profession, which created a clearinghouse of resources that might be of use both for female faculty members and for anyone interested in advancing gender equity at their institution. The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has as its mission the promotion of “equity for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change.” Two corporations comprise AAUW, the Association itself, which sponsors public policy efforts, a Leadership and Training Institute, and diversity initiatives, and the AAUW Educational Foundation, which is “the world’s largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women.” The AAUW Legal Advocacy, the nation’s largest legal fund focused solely on sex discrimination in education, is part of the Educational Foundation. The National Women’s Studies Association, NWSA, is committed to developing scholarship, practices, and pedagogies “that incorporate disciplinary, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, multicultural, and/or global methods and perspectives to advance the study and knowledge of all women and to create critical dialogue on the production of knowledge about and related to all women and on the application of such knowledge to social and political practices and processes.” Resources include but are not limited to teaching tools, syllabi collections, and information on funding sources.
