Ways to Use Title IX Talking Points
I'll send these talking points to allies on campus who might be able to make use of these in their campus work.
I'll send a copy to my president.
I'll work with colleagues to set up forums for faculty, staff, and student discussions about Title IX.
I'll put a copy on my organizational/campus/or personal web site.
I'll send this out to student groups so they might organize discussions.
I'll work with the athletic department on campus to set up discussions about the current debate
to alter Title IX regulations through the Department of Education.
I'll share these talking points with my professional scholarly organization since Title IX affects all areas of campus life.
I'll talk with our campus public affairs office about what the college is doing formally in this debate and how the public affairs office is addressing this issue before legislatures and other important decision-making bodies at my institution.
I'll create an assignment as appropriate in my classes if I am a faculty member, at my meetings, if I am an administrator, within the student groups I participate in if I am a student, through my representative unions or groups if I am a staff person.
I will contact my Congressional Representative, my Senator, Secretary of Education Paige, and President Bush to express my views on efforts to weaken the anti-discriminatory impact of Title IX on women and girls. I will encourage others to do the same.
I will write something in my campus newspaper, faculty newsletter, alumni magazine, local newspaper, or other media where I have access to do so.
I will continue to read more about the debates, track the decisions about regulations, and help other
people to stay informed.
I'll think of some other ways to use these talking points beyond what is on this list.
