INSITUTE PARTICIPATION
Campus Participation
The Greater Expectations Institute is designed for campuses
that have begun the work of building campus environments that
foster engagement, inclusion, and achievement for all students
and that have made some progress in their work. All accredited
two- and four-year colleges and universities are eligible
to apply.
Campuses that would benefit from having a team participate
in the Institute:
- If your campus includes several islands of innovations
that need coherence, the Institute is designed to help teams
build bridges that link islands of innovation and align
an institution’s infrastructure with these innovative
programs.
- If your academic and student affairs units are not collaborating
effectively to achieve the learning outcomes that your institution
envisions for its students, the Institute provides a venue,
time, and the expertise to help teams examine mutual goals
and develop a plan of coordinated and complementary action.
- If some faculty members want to implement progressive
educational practice while others cherish the status quo,
the Institute will offer campus leaders specific strategies
to address the challenge this situation presents and achieve
greater expectations.
Team Composition
Campus teams typically consist of five individuals who are
significantly engaged in creating a learning-centered culture. Team
composition is extremely important and must include a senior
academic officer. Teams should include faculty members from
a variety of disciplines, student affairs professionals, institutional
researchers, and/or others who will implement the action plan.
Be sure to consider inclusion of people with different perspectives
on the campus work to be done. Campuses are strongly encouraged
to include a student member in their teams.
