The Institute emphasizes active participation in an environment that fosters open communication within and between teams, with the Institute faculty, and with national scholars and practitioners. The schedule features:

daily team time to work extensively on developing campus plans for sustaining institutional change;

seminars and interactions with other campus teams to discuss research, successful institutional change strategies, and effective practice that foster student engagement, inclusion, and high achievement;

cross-campus team time to develop relationships and examine similar campus challenges in different institutional contexts and from individual perspectives; and
- specialized consultation with Institute faculty to address specific challenges campuses face in enacting learning-centered efforts.
The Institute will emphasize both educational and organizational concerns. Specifically, the program will focus on the topics below.

- Creating sites of support for all students
- Insuring that students can see their identities, histories, and hopes reflected in the curriculum
- Investigating the research on student learning, diversity, identity, and intellectual development
- Using the diversity of all as an educational resource for all
- Fostering civic capacities for a diverse democracy
