The Leadership Fund for Liberal Education

The Leadership Fund for Liberal Education, established in 2006, has been instrumental as AAC&U has made the LEAP vision come alive both in the academy and for the wider public.  Individuals, corporations, foundations, and higher education institutions have made gifts to the Leadership Fund.

What does AAC&U do with these flexible funds?

  • We provide resources to commission analysis and research, such as the 2013 Hart Research Associates survey “It Takes More than a Major: Employer Priorities for College Learning and Student Success.”
  • We have used Leadership Fund gifts to hold LEAP States summits, where leaders in the ten LEAP States and other states and consortia come together for strategic planning, coordinated agenda setting, and individualized goal-setting.
  • We use the funds to convene the LEAP Campus Action Network each January at the Annual Meeting, providing the opportunity for faculty members and administrative leaders to engage directly with LEAP leaders in interactive dialogue about key issues in undergraduate liberal education.
  • We used these funds to support the 2013 Employer-Educator kickoff event in Washington, DC, as well as to host Employer-Educator Forums in Boston, Philadelphia, and Seattle, each of which cemented relationships between employers and higher education institutions in those areas.
