Making Excellence Inclusive: Diversity, Inclusion, and Institutional Renewal
How to Get Involved
Hold a forum on your campus
As a primary undertaking of the intiative's first phase, AAC&U senior staff convened a series of invitational forums with key stakeholders. These forums were designed to contribute knowledge about processes, policies, and institutional structures that inhibit or enhance the linking of diversity and educational quality efforts. Below is a list of discussion questions that can guide your forum discussion and generate campus conversations about Inclusive Excellence:
- In what ways has your institution specifically tied diversity and inclusion to its educational mission?
- In what areas of your institution do you see the most success and to what specific conditions do you attribute that achievement?
- What are the constraints and barriers that hinder progress to institutionalizing diversity and inclusion throughout your institution?
- What would help you most in your position to wed the quality agenda with the inclusion agenda?
- What are some horizon issues with diversity and institutional renewal that colleges should begin to anticipate in their thinking and planning?
- What are some of the institutional incentives that you have used to encourage greater incorporation of diversity as a component of educational excellence?
- What research evidence might enable you to strengthen your effort to institutionalize diversity and inclusion at various levels within your institution?
