Bringing Theory to Practice Project

Leadership Coalition Follow-up Conference (Additional 14)
For additional 14 institutions added April 2009

From November 6-7, 2009, the 14 institutions most recently inducted to the Leadership Coalition sent representatives from their faculty and administration to discuss the priorities of the Coalition and the implementation of related projects on their own campuses. Conference members recognized the achievements of their fellow educators while lending insight into the ongoing challenges of affecting meaningful and lasting change in higher education. The Follow-up Conference was structured to reflect the successful April 19-20 meeting offered to the initial 39 campuses of the Leadership Coalition.

Teams of two to three campus leaders (provosts, student affairs personnel, faculty, etc.) were asked to attend from each of the new 14 Leadership Coalition institutions.  Teams learned from higher education experts and consultants as well as benefiting from others eachother's experience and awareness of the best practices and issues most concerning campuses dedicated to this level and depth of campus change for learning.

The Leadership Coalition encourages and supports institutions committed to providing successful models of a campus culture focused on actively engaging students in learning, evaluating their success in doing so, and addressing the full dimensions of the intellectual, emotional, and civic lives of students.

The Follow-up Conference was designed to orient the new 14 institutional teams to the work of the Leadership Coalition. Bringing Theory to Practice will continue to support the work of these 14 campuses as they work to create and sustain transformative learning experiences for their students.
