Bringing Theory to Practice Project

3rd National Student Conference

Student Voice and Higher Education:
Communicating and Engaging on Campus as a 'Millenial' Student to Enrich Educational Outcomes

October 3-4, 2008
Washington, DC

About the Conference

The Bringing Theory to Practice Project has excelled at helping to bridge the gap between faculty, student affairs personnel, counselors, and administrators on college and university campuses.  Bridging the gap between these key constituents and the students that they are counted on to serve is equally important.

Within the unique social, political and technological climate that higher education currently finds itself, many perceive a growing disconnect between faculty, staff, other campus constituencies, and students in effective communication strategies and engaged interactions that are necessary to achieving the common goal of every student obtaining a liberal education (including engaged learning, civic engagement, and mental health and overall well-being).

Student Voice and Higher Education: Communicating and Engaging on Campus as a 'Millenial' Student to Enrich Educational Outcomes will highlight how the student voice informs not only the work of the BTtoP Project, but also all college and university campus cultures.   The conference will be an opportunity for students to engage with their peers from across the nation to discuss how BTtoP grantee campuses (and others) can better communicate and collaborate with their student body towards the anticipated outcomes of their own BTtoP program or research, and also towards the more general outcomes of the liberal education they promote.  The conference will inspire the student participants to spread the work of their campus project, and to promote their own activism by initiating other collaborative programs on their campus.
