Seminar Grant: Fostering Student Global Engagement through Academic Advising (A professional development seminar for academic advisers at Penn State)
"This civic and professional development seminar is dedicated to the rationale for and issues related to advising students for global engagement. It seeks to contribute to an increased level of professional competence and enhanced pedagogic skills in the area of global education and global advising and thus to a more purposeful intent of academic advising to engage students with global issues through integrating curricular and co-curricular opportunities. The structure of the seminar reflects our beliefs about the role of Penn State as a global university, the place of academic advising in accomplishing this role, and the essential components of a productive advising process. The four main sessions focus on the key features of globalization and reasons why promoting student global engagement is essential, the range of global engagement opportunities available on campus, inclusion of global issues in academic advising, and issues specific to the pedagogy of advising for global engagement."
