The Case Foundation on BTtoP's 4th National Student Conference

Proposal review and funding
BTtoP will next review grant proposals for funding on June 1, 2011. This modification of BTtoP’s 2010-2012 RFP, which also specified December 1, 2010 and March 1, 2011 as submission deadlines, is due to an unusually large volume of quality submitted proposals in 2010. Institutions should expect response to Mini and Program or Research Initiative Grant proposals submitted on June 1, 2011 by July 1, 2011.

Heifer International challenges Drury students to live in poverty conditions
Heifer International challenges members of Drury's Global Civic Engagement Project to "live in conditions equivalent to those of poor citizens in the developing world." This and other activities of Drury's GCEC are partially funded by a Leadership Coalition Grant. Full Text

BTtoP Cost Study: College and University Expenditures in Addressing Patterns of Student Disengagement
The most recent BTtoP Cost Study identified and itemized specific direct and indirect costs related to resources, personnel, and programming employed by colleges and universities to address the various symptoms of student disengagement. In addition to presenting the findings of the Cost Study, this report also provides suggestions for institutions interested in furthering the development and dissemination of campus commitment for the promotion of engaged learning, civic development, and student mental health and well-being efforts. BTtoP Cost-Study: College and University Expenditures in Addressing Patterns of Student Disengagement
A total , one-time grant of $70,000 has been awarded to conduct this study during the time period commencing November 1, 2007 and concluding August 29, 2008. The cost-study will be implemented by Dr. Lynn E. Swaner and Dr. Ashley P. Finley, co-principal investigators for the study (hereafter referred to as the "co-PIs"). The purpose of the study is to identify costs related to resources, personnel, and programming employed by colleges and universities to address the various symptoms of student disengagement, and then conduct a comparative study of such costs and related trends over a five-year period among a limited sample of colleges and universities

The Summer 2007 issue of AAC&U's Peer Review is dedicated to the Bringing Theory to Practice (BTtoP) project. This issue provides a brief project overview, showing how it seeks to advance engaged student learning and determine how it might improve the quality of students' education, development, health, and commitment to civic engagement. Second International Institute on Partnerships
Portland State University and AAC&U are co-sponsoring "Second International Institute on Partnerships: From Reciprocity to Collective Transformation - Achieving the Potential of Community-Campus Partnerships" from May 23-25, 2011 on PSU's campus. This multiformat institute facilitated by a diverse panel will "explore strategies to address persistent challenges, analyze promising practices, and examine research to advance the study of partnerships."

Active Minds' Mental Health on Campus Conference
This November Active Minds is holding its Mental Health on Campus Conference. Frank Warren, founder of PostSecret.com, will speak and Dr. John Nash, winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and subject of A Beautiful Mind, will be presented with the Founders Award for Advocacy and Awareness. Alison Malmon, Founder and Executive Director of Active Minds, continues to be an asset to BTtoP as a member of our Advisory Board.

Demonstration Site Program Director Barry Checkoway wins the Prestigious Ehrlich Award
Barry Checkoway, BTtoP's Demonstration Site Program Director and original advisory board member, has won the 2010 Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award in recognition of his over 20 years of work in service-learning and community-based programs. Award Announcement
