New Jersey Campus Diversity Initiative

Case Studies - Spring 2006

Bergen Community College
Through the creation of the Center for the Study of Intercultural Understanding (CSIU), Bergen Community College (BCC) integrated diversity education practices into the college curriculum, built a community of learners, and increased community involvement/partnerships.


Bloomfield College
Through the establishment of the Center for Cultures and Communication (CCC) and the implementation of Seminars for Professional and Program Development, Bloomfield College broadened and deepened the diversity knowledge and skills of its constituencies, enhanced the curriculum, improved campus climate through connections among curricula, co-curricula, and services, and strengthened campus-community partnerships. 


County College of Morris

County College of Morris used assessments of their curricula, students, and community to inform the integration of diversity and global awareness education into their degree programs and to facilitate ways to increase faculty and community support to deliver global awareness programs.

Princeton University
Princeton University’s initiative was designed to bring together new and current co-curricular dialogue efforts, including the Sustained Dialogue program (a student-led activity), through the establishment of Dialogue@Princeton. 


Rowan University

The Rowan University initiative focused on providing faculty development seminars twice a year to develop interdisciplinary team-taught courses for first-year students that address issues of diversity and democracy.


Rutgers University
The three Rutgers University campuses, Camden, New Brunswick, and Newark, created Intercultural Fellows program. Each campus designed the Fellows program to enhance and extend the diversity efforts on their campus such as revising their courses and training other faculty, students, and staff.


The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey
The Richard Stockton University of New Jersey focused its initiative on creating global citizens, promoting civic responsibility, and creating cultures of mutual respect through faculty development programs in their First Year Initiative.


The University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey
The University of Medicine and Dentistry conducted a needs assessment, which culminated with recommendations for organizational cultural competency and infusion of cultural competence throughout curricula at all UMDNJ Schools.
