AAC&U officers and staff
regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally
the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools
through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in
more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak
on the value of liberal education at various media and public
affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the
membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives.

On February 10, AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider participated in a National Forum on the Future of Liberal Education seminar in New York City. On March 6, Schneider will address the Washington Higher Education Secretariat, alongside counterparts from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, on the National Task Force for Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement’s recent publication, A Crucible Moment: College Learning and Democracy’s Future.
On February 28, AAC&U Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs Debra Humphreys presented a plenary presentation along with David Conley, professor of education at the University of Oregon, titled “What Does it Mean to Be College and Career Ready?” at a meeting cosponsored by the Kentucky council on Postsecondary Education, the State Higher Education Executive Officers, the Chief Council of State School Officers, and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. The Louisville, KY, event—“Architecture for Implementing the Common Core Standards: Strategies, Partnerships and Progress”—was sponsored as part of the College Readiness Partnership.
AAC&U Senior Director for Student Success Tia Brown McNair attended a Capitol Hill briefing on College Completion with Equity: Metro Academies as a National Model, hosted by San Francisco State University, Thursday, March 1, in Washington, DC. McNair will give the keynote address at Miami Dade College’s institution-wide Student Services Retreat on March 30.
AAC&U Vice President for Quality, Curriculum, and Assessment Terrel Rhodes visited the University of Alabama–Birmingham to lead workshops on general education reform and assessment on February 3. On February 7 and 8, Rhodes conducted a program review of liberal education and core requirements at Philadelphia University. On February 9, Rhodes led a workshop on assessment of learning outcomes the Degree Qualifications Profile and AAC&U’s VALUE rubrics at the New Community College of the City University of New York.
AAC&U Senior Director of Assessment and Research Ashley Finley visited Franklin College on February 2 and Colorado College February 15-16 to facilitate campus discussions related to institutional assessment efforts.
PKAL Executive Director Susan Elrod visited the University Alabama–Birmingham to conduct a series of workshops on general education reform and assessment February 2-3. On February 14, she presented a session titled “Course Design for 21st-Century Learners” at Morehouse College in Atlanta. Elrod also attended the Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Vancouver, February 16-20.
AAC&U Vice President for Engagement, Inclusion, and Success Susan Albertine traveled to the University of Alabama–Birmingham with Terrel Rhodes and Susan Elrod, February 2-3, 2012, to help the university's College of Arts and Sciences frame its strategic plan. On February 6-8, Albertine traveled to Boulder, CO, for a meeting of pilot state facilitators from Hawaii, California, Oregon, Utah, and North Dakota for the Interstate Passport Initiative, a Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) project. February 13-14, 2012, Albertine offered "The National Context: The LEAP States Initiative and the Degree Qualifications Profile" at Engaging from the Start: Better General Education and Transfer in California. February 15-16, Albertine served as a member of the Undergraduate Public Health Education Expert Panel Meeting, in Washington, DC, hosted by the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH). In Texas, February 17-21, Albertine facilitated a discussion of LEAP and high-impact, engaged learning at the Texas Council of Faculty Senates Spring Meeting, in Austin, and then traveled to College Station, TX, to attend the 12th Annual Texas A&M Assessment Conference, joining Ken O'Donnell, Associate Dean, California State University Chancellor's Office, at a workshop and presentation on February 19 and 20, and speaking at the LEAP Texas Institutional Liaison Luncheon and Meeting, February 21.
